Yoga for Mental Wellness with Léa Perret
Saturday, November 30th, 2019, 9:30-10:30am
Winter will soon be at our doorstep, so it’s a great time to add a routine of self-care into your schedule. Start your weekend with me, Léa, on Saturday November 30th from 9:30-10:30am, on the right foot (and the left foot!). In this class we’ll explore the ways in which yoga can support your well-being through this seasonal change. Whether you have to shake off your work woes or daily pet peeves, this class will provide the space for you to reset. Your presence and participation will also be a wonderful way to give back and support mental health research; for every yogi who attends, $5 will go to the Douglas Foundation, an organization that endeavours to support mental health in the Montreal community since 1972.
About the Douglas Foundation
The Douglas Foundation was created in 1972 at the Douglas Institute in Verdun. Back then, there was a lot of stigmatization associated with mental health problems. For over 45 years the Foundation’s mission has been to support the Institute’s development; from patient care to mental health research and educating professionals as well as the public in order to de-stigmatize mental illnesses.
Hi! I’m Lea, a fervent student of mental health research, and a yogi since 2008! After completing my bachelors in biomedical sciences in Thailand, I came to Montreal to do a masters studying mechanisms of depression… and now I’m studying some more as a doctoral student in mental health research at McGill University. I’m still devoted to the study of depression, some might say it is a gloomy subject, but it being quite prevalent in the world and highly complex, I find it to be a fascinating topic! On occasion the week day scientist in me meets the weekend yogi in me and I contemplate areas where they intersect.
