In celebration of International Women’s Day,
we asked some of Luna Yoga’s inspiring and
amazing women to share with our community their story and what it means to be a woman. Our spotlight today is on a shining star: Frances Vicente! Manager at Luna and a passionate and devoted teacher, Frances is one of the hardest working people we know!

Something about yourself that you believe has made you into the person you are today

Definitely my family. I have a big, loving, quirky family and they of course had a large part in shaping me into who I am today. My teachers say your parents are your first gurus, and that your family, where you come from, what situation you are born into, all teach you about yourself. My challenges also have taught me great life lessons and overcoming them has allowed me to grow, evolve and mature. All the people who I have met throughout my life and who I have yet to meet, are all valuable teachers if I am open and receptive. I am lucky that as a yoga teacher I have the honour and privilege of connecting with wonderful people, all seeking to add more kindness to the world in some way. I am continuously uplifted and inspired by them.

Things you tell yourself in moments of self-doubt

I have a big, loving, quirky family and they of course had a large part in shaping me into who I am today.

Inhale let, exhale go. You are doing the best you can, and that is enough. You can never go wrong if you come from a place of love.

Words of advice for other women

You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. (A.A. Milne) Do your best and leave the rest. The only thing powerful enough to create lasting change is love. (Sharon Gannon) So make it your daily practice to spread love and BE love!

With a background in hip hop dance and competitive sport aerobics, Frances first began practicing yoga in 2006 when she started working for lululemon athletica. This became her new passion and way of life. To her, dance is very much an outward expression, whereas yoga offers an opportunity for self-reflection. In 2011, Frances completed her 300-hour Jivamukti Teacher Training with Sharon Gannon and David Life in New York. In January 2013, she became a certified Advanced Jivamukti Teacher and in May 2015 she had the honour and privilege of mentoring the Jivamukti Teacher Training in New York. She is also an ambassador for lululemon athletica for a second time! Frances would like to extend humble thanks and gratitude to her first teachers, Yasmin and Jennifer, her gurus, Sharonji and Davidji, as well as her friends and family who have consistently and unfailingly supported and encouraged her along her path. She draws from experiences and relationships in all areas of her life to bring creativity, compassion, joy and laughter to her classes and teachings.
