It’s not often that I’ve travelled and found a place where I can truly feel at home. But Coco Loco is one of the very few exceptions. It’s where I learned to observe not only myself but others, where I learned to listen to my surroundings as much as I did my intuition, and it’s the place where I created such fond memories and bonds I know will last for a lifetime.
I remember our first day, our first class, we sat with everyone and asked what their intention was. Mine was to connect. Connect with people, with nature, and hopefully, myself. Setting that intention allowed me to create space for some introspection. I won’t bore you with the details of all that, however, I will say that seven days away from home with a group of amazing, inspiring, and uplifting people can really bring out the best in you.
Coco Loco is that rare gem, that peaceful oasis secluded from the rest of the world. It’s not an over-the-top holiday resort but that doesn’t mean it makes you feel like you’re missing out on anything. It provides so much by being discreet but also by making you feel like you can really let go of your worries. You know how yoga teachers, myself included, will refer you to the mantra “Inhale, Let, Exhale, Go”? Well, imagine if all your breaths could be that way. Imagine walking to the beach from your hut with no care in the world. Just the sound of the birds, the wind in the trees, the crashing waves, and… your breath.
The staff at Coco Loco welcomed us with open arms and ever since, we crave to go back. Jamie, one of Coco Loco’s co-owners, checked in with us every morning in case we wanted to change our day’s schedule, Oscar, one of their many surf instructors, was right with you every step of the way while you caught your first wave, and Roxie was at our feet always ready for an adventure.
Every morning the hummingbirds come out to play. In the afternoons, you can expect vibrant smiles and lively conversations with fellow retreaters or Coco Loco’s welcoming staff. And every evening, the sunset paints the sky with its vibrant colours and brings warmth to our hearts as we eat, chat, play games, and relax.
Just writing this, I can feel the nostalgia creep up. But I can also envision creating new memories with you on that Nicaraguan beach, in this place where I know you’ll feel at home too.
If you’d like to join me and Frances, you can find more details here. We’re so excited to have you.
