Are you deep into your detox? January is detox month for many of us, and if you’re like me, your fridge is stocked with superfoods, your mantra is yoga-every-damn-day and, instead of watching another episode on Netflix, you find yourself doing 15-min HIIT exercises on Youtube.

With a body that might be a little achy and more superfoods than you know what to do with wilting in your fridge, this is the perfect time to share some DIY winter skin tips that won’t cost too much and can take your detoxing to the next level.

DIY Face Masks

Budget-friendly, fresh-from-your-own-fridge face masks are as easy as a mash-up. Here are two of my favourite 3-Ingredient DIY face masks that can help use up your superfoods:

When skin is going bananas:

1 mashed banana
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder

If your skin is acting up and acne is stressing you out, bananas are great for repairing skin and cleaning out pores. Simply mash up a banana, baking soda and turmeric and leave on skin for 10min and rinse. Turmeric is great for protecting your skin from acne-causing bacteria and baking soda absorbs any excess oil.

When skin is as dull as our January weather conditions

Juice of 1 lemon
2 tablespoons sugar
1 tablespoon olive oil

Lemons are so versatile. Is there anything they can’t do? Mix together for a quick and detoxing exfoliating scrub.

A HOT BATH CAN CURE ANYTHING

And after your workouts, smoothie and face masks, you deserve the ultimate detoxing step:

Bathing

Bathing gets you and your body into relaxing. When you add any detoxing elements, bathing turns from an ordinary soak into an extraordinary experience. I, of course, encourage you to use an extraordinary Audre natural botanical bathing bomb, chock full of clays, salts, essential oils, organic cocoa and coconut oils but if your pocketbook won’t allow for such indulgences, here is the perfect economical, DIY bathing experience:

  • Fill your tub with hot water (as hot as you can stand)

  • Have 2 tablespoons of coconut oil ready on the edge of your tub (for later)

  • Sprinkle sea salt into your bath (at least 1/4 to 1 cup)

  • As you sink into your tub, take a sponge, face cloth or any type of scrubbing material you have on hand and lightly scrub your body while you sit, letting the detoxifying salts do their magic.

  • Now pour in the coconut oil and let it melt into the water and absorb into your skin.

  • Stay in and soak as long as you want.

Detoxing is all about discipline and after hard work, you deserve a reward, so treat yourself and your skin with some simple DIY and cost-effective ways to give you a healthy glow to get you through the winter months.
