Satsang: Yoga Death and the Occult - by donation

Friday 7:30-8:30pm

Join YuMee Chung for a by-donation satsang on the subject of yoga, death and the siddhis (the supernatural powers that are said to come with yoga practice). We will discuss some of the rationales for śavāsana (corpse pose), clarify yogic perspectives on the death of the body (including the concept of the great merger with the divine, or mahāsamādhi), before turning to the subject of yoga’s historic relationship with occult themes and it’s implications for modern practitioners.

Donations will go to Native Women’s Shelter of Montreal

Birds of a Feather workshop - $60

Saturday: 1-3pm

If high flying poses make you queasy, you're not alone. Join YuMee Chung for a workshop that makes arm balancing more accessible to yogis of all ages and all levels of experience. Learn strategies for leveraging your personal strengths to find safe, effective and fun ways to meet these exhilarating poses on your own terms. We will cover crow/crane (and all its relations), flying pigeon, peacock, peacock feather and a form of press handstand that flows naturally out of our work together. You will use core exercises, conscious corrective movement and partner work to prepare the body in a methodical way so the poses grow naturally from the ground up. Students should come prepared to surprise themselves and to breeze past perceived limitations.

Sympathy for the Deltoid - $60

Saturday 4-6pm

Shoulder issues will strike most people at some point during their lives. This is because the shoulder girdle is one of the most complicated joint systems in the body, and we modern humans use our arms and shoulders on a daily basis for both work and play. The shoulders suffer from chronic issues that lead to rotator cuff injuries, frozen shoulder, upper back pain, neck tension, and headaches. In this therapeutic and educational workshop, we will address habitual holding patterns, retrain your pain, and learn how to keep your shoulders supple, stable and happy for decades to come. All levels welcome.

Language, Cuing and Artful Communication - $90

Sunday 1-4pm

This teaching skills workshop for yoga instructors starts from the premise that the only thing more important than what you say is how you say it. Our learning objectives are to deepen our self-awareness and capacity for self-assessment; deconstruct unconscious teaching habits; move past teaching ruts and plateaus; and uncover our unique teaching voices as we learn to communicate with greater ease, creativity and virtuosity.

You can expect to cover the following topics:

• Deconstructing common language habits

• Cuing clarity

• The poetry of yoga

This workshop is open to certified yoga, movement and fitness teachers and teachers in training. This workshop qualifies you for Yoga Alliance Continuing Education hours.
